How to install and activate your eSIM
An eSIM is a digital SIM you install by scanning a QR code — no physical card. Setup takes about two minutes. Follow the steps for your phone below.
Before you start
- Make sure your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked (see the device check below).
- Connect to Wi-Fi — downloading the eSIM profile needs internet.
- Have the QR code from your BellRoam email ready on another screen, or save the image to your phone.
- Install before you fly, but only turn on data roaming after you land so your validity starts when you need it.
1. Check your device supports eSIM
- Dial *#06# on your phone — if an EID number appears, your device supports eSIM.
- iPhone: Settings → General → About, and look for "Available SIM" or an EID entry.
- Android: Settings → About phone / SIM manager — look for an option to add an eSIM or a "Download a SIM instead" link.
- Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. eSIMs do not work on locked phones.
2. Install on iPhone (iOS 16/17/18)
- Go to Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM / Add Cellular Plan.
- Choose "Use QR Code" and scan the QR code from your BellRoam email.
- If scanning fails, tap "Enter Details Manually" and use the codes from the email (see manual entry below).
- Give the plan a label such as "Travel" or "BellRoam".
- For Default Line, keep your home number for calls/SMS and set the BellRoam eSIM as your Cellular Data line.
3. Install on Android (Samsung, Google Pixel, others)
- Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM → Scan QR code.
- Google Pixel: Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Download a SIM instead? → Next → scan the QR code.
- Other Android: Settings → Network & internet / Connections → Mobile network → Add / Download eSIM → scan.
- If you cannot scan, choose manual entry and paste the activation code from the email.
- After it downloads, enable the new eSIM and set it as your Mobile data SIM.
Manual entry (if you can't scan the QR)
Your BellRoam email includes the values below. On iPhone tap "Enter Details Manually"; on Android choose "Enter activation code manually".
- SM-DP+ Address (also shown as the server address, e.g. starts with rsp… or a domain).
- Activation Code (the long code after the second $ in the LPA string).
- Confirmation / Installation code: leave blank unless the email says otherwise.
4. Activate on arrival
- Turn ON Data Roaming for the BellRoam eSIM line (this is normal for travel eSIMs and does not incur extra charges).
- Set the eSIM as your Mobile Data / Cellular Data line.
- The APN is usually configured automatically. If you have signal but no data, restart your phone once.
- Validity starts the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Vietnam — not when you buy it.
Troubleshooting
No signal / "No Service"
Toggle Airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone. Still nothing? Go to Settings → Cellular → Network Selection, turn OFF automatic, and manually pick the carrier (Viettel, Vinaphone or Mobifone).
Signal but no internet
Make sure Data Roaming is ON for the eSIM and that the eSIM is selected as your Mobile Data line. Restart the phone after changing these.
The QR code won't scan
Use manual entry instead — the SM-DP+ address and activation code are in your email.
"Unable to Add Cellular Plan" or "QR already used"
Each QR can only be installed once. Do not delete and reinstall the eSIM. If it was never installed successfully, contact [email protected].
Can I move the eSIM to another phone?
No. An eSIM is tied to the device it was installed on and cannot be transferred. Install it on the phone you'll travel with.
Tip: install over Wi-Fi before your trip and only enable data roaming after you land. Do not delete the eSIM while travelling — it cannot be reinstalled.
